Justice in the European Community - Protecting Human Rights and Civil Liberties , International one day conference to be held at the University of Leicester on September 30. Items: Civil liberties and the abolition of internal frontiers, Dr. Michael Spencer; Crime and justice in Europe: Policing human rights, chief constable David Phillips; Data protection and civil liberties, Charles Raab; Policing refugees and asylum seekers, Dr. Mike King, CSPO; Immigration issues in the EC, Cathie Lloyd.

The conference will be concluded by a panel discussion with the participation of Prof. David O'Keefe, Prof. Juliet Lodge, Lynne Turnbull, Dr. Mike King, Dr. Michael Spencer, Jolyon Jenkins (former deputy editor of New Statesman and Society).

Journey of information at Germany's eastern border , October 29 - November 3.

The Greens in the European Parliament (Office Claudia Roth, MEP) arranges a bus travel along the German-Czech border. "We want to explore on the spot the new walls between eastern and western Europeand discuss refugee and asylum policies, the militarisation of the eastern frontier, and ethnic conflicts and nationalism. We will establish contacts with civil rights and human rights organisations and also seek information with official agencies on the action of German border protection troops, radar and infrared-detection installations.
